EDC President LeeAnn Nixon and W.C. Scroggs, Wilkes County Planning Director, attended the October 7th Ground Blessing Ceremony for Overmountain Trace Independent Living and future living facility on behalf of Wilkes County. This project was announced in our 2023–24 Annual Report.
The development is located at the corner of Austin Traphill Road and Highway 268 East and has been underway for seven months with completion expected in 2027. The independent living facility, currently under construction, is approximately 98,000 sq. ft. with 69 individual one and two-bedroom units.
Additionally, an assisted living facility will be constructed next that will accommodate 99 beds. Together, these projects represent a $51 million investment in Wilkes County, increasing the tax revenue and employing 55 people.
