On Thursday, September 25, Wilkes EDC staff joined the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce’s Inaugural Clay Classic at the newly developed Hidden Brook Sporting Club. The day welcomed teams of four to a fun and competitive sporting clays event, featuring 100 targets across 14 stations. Participants enjoyed a whole hog and Tyson chicken lunch, coffee and light bites in the morning, and amenities that included golf carts, gun rentals, raffle prizes, and awards. Hidden Brook Sporting Club proved to be an excellent host, showcasing its beautiful grounds and first-class facilities.
Hidden Brook Sporting Club is owned and developed by Kelly and Tracey Dickson. The project was facilitated by Wilkes EDC and made possible through partnerships with the Town of North Wilkesboro and support of Wilkes County Government. Site identification for the development came through the Wilkes Outdoor Action Plan, which outlined the Industrial Park property as a strong location for recreation-focused growth. Together, these efforts are helping strengthen Wilkes County’s outdoor economy by creating new jobs, attracting tourism, and expanding recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
At the Clay Classic, Wilkes EDC staff were delighted to volunteer alongside Chamber staff, helping to make the inaugural event a success. Vice President Robin Hamby supported the event from start to finish, handling check-ins and scorecards throughout the day. President LeeAnn Nixon and Marketing Manager Francisco Martinez each assisted with operating a shooting stand during the second flight, welcoming teams and helping ensure a smooth experience.
We congratulate the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce on a highly successful event. The Clay Classic was an impressive kickoff, giving many attendees the opportunity to explore Hidden Brook Sporting Club’s amenities, space, and activities. We look forward to seeing this new addition to our outdoor economy continue to grow.
