Wilkes Leaders Join North Wilkesboro Speedway Press Conference

May 21, 2025

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Wilkes EDC President LeeAnn Nixon joined local leaders and NASCAR officials for a press conference and luncheon at North Wilkesboro Speedway to preview the upcoming NASCAR All-Star Race Weekend, scheduled for May 15–18.

Invited by North Wilkesboro Speedway All-Star Race Event Director Graig Hoffman, Nixon joined North Wilkesboro Mayor Marc Hauser, Wilkesboro Mayor Dale Isom, Wilkes Chamber of Commerce President Cindy Thompson, and Wilkes TDA Director Thomas Salley. The event brought together sponsors and members of the media to unveil the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse pace cars and highlight recent track upgrades. The event also celebrated longstanding local support, including the Kilby family’s historic Ford dealership and continued collaboration with state agencies such as the NC State Highway Patrol.

The addition of a new 200-foot pedestrian bridge over Highway 421, was constructed by the NC DOT and Smith-Rowe, LLC, in time for race week. It was designed to improve fan access and post-race traffic flow.

“This is more than just a race—it’s a regional celebration that brings together community pride, local history, and national attention,” said Hoffman, noting the transformation of the speedway over the last few years thanks to strong public and private partnerships.

A press conference highlighted NASCAR drivers Joey Logano and Jake Garcia, who shared their excitement about returning to North Wilkesboro and reflected on the track’s historic significance and unique character.

As anticipation was building for May’s race weekend, the press conference showcased how far the speedway—and the Wilkes community—have come in building an experience that blends heritage with high-speed excitement.
