On September 26, the Wilkes County Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department hosted the Working in Wilkes event, bringing together more than 35 local businesses and educators for a day of collaboration, learning, and networking. The event highlighted the importance of connecting education with industry and preparing the next generation for meaningful careers.
Wilkes EDC was proud to sponsor this event as a LEAP Forward initiative that strengthens our future workforce and participate in the conversation. Our President, LeeAnn Nixon, spoke during the presentation to share about the EDC’s mission, focus areas, Wilkes County’s major industry sectors, key employers, and opportunities for future workforce growth.
Events like Working in Wilkes play a critical role in strengthening connections between schools and the business community, ensuring students gain the real-world skills and awareness needed to succeed in local careers and support the county’s continued economic growth.
We are grateful to the CTE Department for organizing this valuable event and look forward to continued collaboration in building a stronger future for Wilkes County.
