22-acre EDC Site Graded for Development

A 22-acre parcel off the northern end of River Road/Liberty Grove Road deeded by the Town of North Wilkesboro to the Wilkes Economic Development Corp. is being graded to help market the property.

The property is on Lanes Drive near the Jeld-Wen facility in the town’s industrial park.

The EDC received a $1.55 million site development grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation for the work.

Wilkes EDC President LeeAnn Nixon said the site will accommodate a building with up to 150,000 square feet of floor space.

Nixon said it could start as a smaller building and be a second Wilkes Commercial Business Center site available for lease from the EDC, with plans for expansion. The first such building, near the intersection of Liberty Grove Road/River Road, is occupied by two companies.

Gunter Grading Co. of Union Grove was the successful bidder for the grading work.

Nixon said people interested in the property can contact the Wilkes EDC at 336-838-1501 to learn more and discuss the opportunities.

An earlier Golden LEAF grant helped identify the site as having good potential for development.
